Disney Cruise From Galveston: A Guide for Texas Families

Galveston is Disney's Texas departure port. Disney says parking is available next to the cruise terminal, and the shortest itinerary is four nights. This guide is a planning checklist, not a trip report. Every fact on it comes from a page I read on 18 October 2026, and each source is linked at the bottom.

Which Ship, and When

Disney's own Disney Magic page lists "Galveston Texas" among its popular itineraries, alongside the Bahamas, Western Caribbean, Alaska and San Diego. Disney's Getting to the Port page names a Disney Magic sailing on November 4, 2027 that ends at the Port of Galveston.

The Galveston itinerary cards I read on Disney's Find a Cruise page did not show a ship name, and I did not capture the date list under each card. So treat the Disney Magic as the ship Disney's site ties to Galveston, then confirm the ship and the exact dates on the sailing you pick. If a date matters to you, check it there first.

Some sailings carry themes. Disney's Magic page describes Marvel Days at Sea on select sailings, and Halloween on the High Seas or Very Merrytime Cruises between mid-September and the end of the year. Two of the Galveston cards I read were tagged Marvel Days at Sea and Very Merrytime.

Itineraries From Galveston

On 18 October 2026, Disney's Find a Cruise page listed these itineraries from Galveston:

• 5-night Western Caribbean, sailing to Progreso, Mexico
• 7-night Bahamian, sailing to Nassau and Disney Castaway Cay
• 7-night Bahamian, sailing to Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and Disney Castaway Cay

For a first sailing with young kids, I would look at the shortest option, because a four-night trip tests how your family handles days at sea before you commit a week. For a family that wants a private island day, the seven-night Bahamian sailings are the ones that call at Disney's own cays. Disney's Departure Ports page describes Galveston as a Gulf Coast port of departure on its own island, so a night on the island before or after is an option.

The Drive and Parking From DFW

Fort Worth to Galveston is about 317 to 318 miles. Wanderlog puts the drive at 5 hours 5 minutes in normal traffic, and 1Map says 5 hours 17 minutes. Both are approximate. Leave a buffer for a holiday weekend or a late start, because a cruise embarkation day is not the day to cut it close.

Disney gives the port address as Port of Galveston, 2702 Harborside Drive, Galveston, TX 77550. Its page says to follow the signs for the Disney Cruise Line ship and terminal. The Port of Galveston's own site lists other terminals at other Harborside Drive numbers, so use the address from your Disney documents rather than a general port address.

Disney says parking operated by the Port of Galveston is available adjacent to the cruise terminal and can be prepaid online. The port's parking page says its lots are within walking distance of each terminal and patrolled 24/7 by Port Police. It does not publish rates on that page, so I am not quoting any. The port's parking line is (409) 766-6163, 8 AM to 5 PM daily.

What to Book First, Ranked

1. Choose the sailing and confirm the ship

   Pick the itinerary length first, then check the ship on the sailing page at Disney Cruise Line.

2. Book the stateroom

   Match the stateroom to your party size and the ages of your kids before anything else is priced.

3. Decide how you will reach Galveston

   Driving from Fort Worth is roughly five hours, so plan for arrival the same day or the night before.

4. Prepay port parking if you drive

   Port of Galveston parking is operated by the port and can be prepaid online.

5. Handle documents and kids club details

   Read Disney's travel documentation page and the youth club age bands for your children.

The order matters because the stateroom and the sailing set everything else. Parking and travel to the port only make sense once the date is fixed.

These are the age bands Disney lists on its Disney Magic page:

• it's a small world nursery: 6 months to 3 years
• Disney's Oceaneer Club, including Andy's Room and the Marvel Super Hero Academy: ages 3 through 10
• Edge, for tweens: ages 11 to 14
• Vibe, for older kids: ages 14 through 17

Check the bands against each child's age on the sailing date, not today. Edge and Vibe both list age 14, so ask which one fits a 14 year old.
